Best idea I have heard yet!  Since it gets dark so early and many people will not open the door after dark, try this idea.  Go to Walmart and buy one of the reflective vest that police and road crews use and wear that up to the door when you knock and 100% of the time if they are there they will answer/open the door.  In addition you will be more visible when walking in the street from your car!  Free bonus.
